What to put on a gift list for a second baby

Build a short list around what needs replacing, what's in the wrong season, and what would help the whole household.

A second baby list starts with a cupboard check. Keep the things you can use again, then add the items you ran out of, lent out, or need in a different size. A short list tells guests more than a copy of your first registry.

Check what's ready to use

Take out the clothes, towels, and blankets you've kept. Sort them by size and season. A drawer full of warm layers may not help a baby who will be that size in summer. Note the gaps before adding a fresh set of everything.

Name the refills and replacements

List the items that went through the wash every day, the things that didn't make it back from a loan, and the favorite book that fell apart. For a refill, name the system or size you already use. If you'd happily take clean hand-me-down clothes, say so and give the sizes you're missing.

Include help that fits your household

Think about school pickup, a prepared meal, or an hour outside with the older child. Write down what would make the offer usable: “A dinner that freezes well, please message us about allergies and a drop-off day.” Keep names, schedules, and addresses in direct messages.

Give guests a way to tell ideas apart

Label items that are flexible and specify the ones that have to match something you own. If you'd like several of the same item, set a quantity on the list. If an offer needs a date or conversation, ask guests to check with you privately before making plans.
