How to organize a group gift without pressuring anyone

Choose one coordinator, agree on the full cost, and invite people to join privately before anyone spends money.

A group gift works when someone owns the purchase and everyone can opt in without explaining their budget. Agree on the gift, the deadline, and what happens if there isn't enough money before anyone places an order.

Confirm the gift and the total cost

Check that the recipient wants it. If the idea came from a wish list, open the product page and confirm the model, delivery, and price. Include shipping or a card in the total so you know what you're asking people to cover.

Ask once, then take replies privately

Try: “We're getting Ana the cookbook set she mentioned. If you'd like to join, message me by Thursday. Any amount is fine and there's no need to reply if you're skipping.” If there’s a fixed amount, put it in the message so people can decide before they say yes.

Give the organizer a fallback

Decide what you'll do if the group falls short. Choose a smaller gift, cover the difference if the buyer wants to, or return any contributions and stop. Keep a simple private record of contributions. If the gift is on Piki, one person can reserve it for the group. Collect money and buy the gift separately.

Keep the card about the recipient

Invite contributors to add a short message. If others want to sign a general card, let them do so without turning the card into a record of who paid. Follow up privately if the order falls through or there's money left over.
